What we do
As concept creators, we understand emerging lifestyle trends and their influence on products of daily use. Acting as a ‘finger on the design pulse’, we identify what is new and cutting edge and then translate it into persuasive products and inspiration.
Why we're different
At Freedom Tree, we design with joy, no pretence, and dollops of relevance. Bold and graphic in color, there’s always something unique and unexpected. Our ranges are designed in-house and produced in India, seamlessly blending identity and eclectic design elements.

Our Story
For Free People
Freedom Tree is an Indian design house that inspires you to express your individuality at home and in life. Our bold prints and fresh colors are a sign of relentless optimism. Beginning with our first store in 2010, our promise remains to bring you ‘Good Design Everyday.'

It all began 40 years ago, with India’s first home store
Freedom Tree took root as Takete Maluma in 1995, with a vision to bring about change in the way people curated their homes. The idea was to allow people the freedom of personal self expression, making their homes a creative playground. We wanted to capture the zeitgeist of the 90s and present busy working people with a choice of ingredients for joyful homes.
Freedom Tree, as we know it, was born in 2010, on the foundation of a strong Consulting Practice. Freedom Tree is bright and filled with life, synonymous with happy colours, and bold prints that seamlessly transition from the designer’s drafts onto fabric, furniture, apparel, ceramic dinnerware, and cupboards brimming with curiosities. Our aesthetic swirls with colour and pattern and creative risk-taking,
"I see a home as a nurturing place for my family and friends. Filled with joy, it is easy to relax here.”

The art of form and color, for happy and REAL homes
Our founder Latika, personally believes in that living with color is being surrounded by happiness. Creations are made to be enjoyed. The human touch, the perfectly-imperfect can be seen in print drawings and objects we design. We design products to be loved for years to come. Abstract patterns, bold shapes and colors for free spirited living. Childlike naiveté in approach and form is encouraged for originality. Tropical and indigenous traditions are woven into a storied narrative, reflecting on our cultural zeitgeist.

A Creative Community, the work of many hearts and hands
Freedom Tree’s work is a collaborative process of co-creation with master craftsmen, some of whom have worked alongside us for almost four decades. In the time spent together there is an exchange of experience, technique and fresh ideas flow between our designers and these creative partners.
This creative playground is our community of artisans, with whom we push boundaries. While prints and forms can be timeless, techniques are constantly evolving. Iconic designs are translated across materials and product lines. They are revived in tens of different colors, scaling materials and extending design language as they evolve with time.

Our Legacy / timeline
Our journey began with ‘Takete Maluma’ almost 30 years ago. Based in Mumbai, the store was India’s first interaction with a contemporary design brand for home. Eclectic and edgy, with a global color scheme and quirky product mix, it found a strong resonance with the city’s evolving vibe and it’s people.
"I see a home as a nurturing place for my family and friends. Filled with joy, it is easy to relax here.”
