Frequently Asked Questions about Stripes & Checks Fabrics

Do stripes and checks work with patterned furniture?

Yes — a stripe or a check is one of the most effective ways to mix patterns. Stripes and checks read as secondary patterns, allowing them to work alongside a larger floral or geometric without competing. The key is to keep the scale different: a narrow stripe alongside a large floral works well; two large-scale patterns of the same scale rarely do.

Are your striped fabrics suitable for outdoor cushions?

Our striped and checked fabrics are designed for indoor use. For outdoor cushions, the fabric would need UV and moisture protection that our standard range does not carry.

Do you offer striped fabric in custom lengths?

Yes. Our fabrics are sold by the metre and can be ordered in any length. For upholstery, your upholsterer will advise on the exact quantity required. For curtains, measure from the top of the track to the floor and add approximately 15–20cm for hems and headings.

How do I care for striped and checked upholstery fabric?

Regular vacuuming with a soft brush attachment removes dust and prevents the fibres from matting. For spills, blot immediately. For deep cleaning, use a professional upholstery cleaning service or a fabric-specific upholstery cleaner tested on a hidden area first.

Can striped fabric be used for both curtains and upholstery in the same room?

Yes — using the same fabric for both curtains and upholstery is a classic interior design technique that creates a cohesive, designed feel. It works particularly well with stripes and checks, which are strong enough to carry the repetition without feeling overwhelming.
