Curate Your Creative Hub with Freedom Tree

Home is where the heart is, but for many of us these days, home is also where our office is. There is an art to working from home, and it hinges on diligence without distraction. Unlike a 9-to-5, there are no guidelines telling you how your cubicle should look; your door can remain as open or as closed as you wish; and of course, there is that feeling of being at home—the place where you are supposed to feel comfortable and relaxed, but not so much so that you’re letting your to-dos get the best of you. For many, this unplanned relocation has meant answering emails sitting cross-legged on a couch, laptop on the lap. And so many of us are discovering the joys of working from your bed.

Working from bed should be a treat.Think of it as a special treat, a quiet, secluded, glittery, fantasy land where anything is possible, where your productivity has no bounds, and your creativity is relentless.

Don’t do it every day as it’ll lose all its glory (not to mention the long term impact of poor posture). Your room is the one place in your home that resembles an oasis far from any possible distraction or task that will deviate your attention from a pending deadline. Admittedly, we are not advocating for you to WFB (work from bed) every single day of your life, but there’s no harm in doing it every now and again — provided that you have the right tools.

A Lapdesk is key when you want to keep your laptop from overheating on you, and your back scrunching in uncomfortable positions. It can also double as breakfast in bed trays for the weekend! Since a lapdesk is mobile, you can use it on a sofa, a low dining table, or even while standing on a high shelf or surface. The extra height lapdesks can give you is recommended by most experts as a more ideal sitting position for long hours at a stretch. Keep cushions nearby. Use them to prop yourself up — heck you can even build a fort if you really need to get into the zone — or set them up wisely so they can double up as a backdrop if you get pulled into an online meeting.

If you haven’t yet experimented with indoor plants, your home office is the place to start. Potted plants can help fight the effects of indoor air pollution. Cleaner air that’s conducive to a sharper mind. Even brief exposure to nature [like the kind provided by potted plants] has been shown to make people more altruistic, calm, and even creative!. So pick yourself up a fiddle-leaf fig, a maidenhair fern, or a hoya, plant it in our Ombre Herb Planters, Grey Desk Planters, or even Patchy the Elephant Planter and breathe easier.

Light can greatly affect your mood, it’s important to be able to control it in a way that keeps you alert at certain times and more relaxed at others. To achieve such a scheme, flank your desk with a table lamp for visual order, then add a pendant light or two for a softer glow. Such a move will allow you to adjust the light, whether it’s night or day, to suit you and your mood.
Pro tip: LED lights are a superb investment - low cost to run, lasting much longer than traditional lights and now coming in a variety of colors and shades including natural daylight.
