Modern furniture design is more than just the pursuit of what’s trending.

At its core, it is a layered and thoughtful exploration of material, legacy, and storytelling, one that harmonizes form and function while anchoring pieces in their space and context.

At Freedom Tree, we believe that great design is rooted in both heritage and innovation. Every piece in our collection carries with it a unique aesthetic, rooted in Indian craftsmanship and reimagined for contemporary living.

Our approach is deeply influenced by global and local currents—what materials are being explored, what forms are being revived or challenged, and how storytelling is evolving through design. Drawing from these cues, we bring fresh perspectives to familiar forms. Whether it’s a spindle-leg armchair, a bed frame made of reclaimed teak, or a lightweight nested metal side table, each object is designed with intention.

We group our furniture into key families and design languages — Tropical, Retro, Modern, and what we like to call Neu Primitif. Collections like Nara, Spindle, Andaman, Roz, Sinni, and Mod Wika carry their own distinct DNA and personalities. We evolve our designs with every season, but each piece remains grounded in the same ethos: expressive yet functional, playful yet enduring.

We also champion our traditional techniques and handicrafts – from cast metal tables, handcarved wood detailing, inlay, hand-painting, turned wood, rope and wicker weaves. This hybrid use of techniques, materials and forms are what make Freedom Tree’s pieces speak in a unique voice, merging diverse techniques into one harmonious story.

Furniture Style Choices

Minimalist Furniture Design

WMinimalism doesn’t always mean stark or cold. At Freedom Tree, our interpretation leans towards Asian minimalism—warm woods, clean lines, and meditative balance. The Nara series, with its low-profile forms and slatted details, is a perfect example of this restrained beauty. It’s about reducing clutter while maximizing comfort and visual calm. The grain of the wood is often the hero here, unembellished and quietly confident.

Our minimalist furniture pieces are designed to create a sense of spaciousness and serenity. Dining tables with softly curved edges, benches that tuck neatly under the table, and bed frames with slatted headboards—all combine practicality with aesthetic clarity. The idea is not to strip away personality but to let craftsmanship and proportion shine.

Bohemian Furniture Design

WFor those drawn to vibrant storytelling and playful expression, bohemian furniture design is a joyful path to explore. We interpret this through a tropical-urban lens infusing craft traditions with contemporary relevance. Expect carved wood surfaces, inlay work, rope weaves, and handpainted motifs.

Freedom Tree’s bohemian spirit shines through our tropical collections mixes rope and metal for an airy, laid-back vibe. Or through intricate pieces like our Flower of Life handpainted cabinet and other side tables, each stroke capturing the artistry of Indian craft traditions. The textures are painterly, the colors bold, and the silhouettes often whimsical.

It’s a style that embraces layering—multiple materials, multiple influences, and a sense of artistic spontaneity. It allows you to tell your own story, room by room, object by object. A handwoven lounge chair here, a patterned drawer chest there—every piece contributes to a narrative of lived-in luxury.

Metal Furniture Design

WMetal is no longer just a structural element. In our design language, it becomes a tactile, visual, and structural feature. We use metal in myriad ways—from sleek frames for chairs and sofas to bold, statement tables cast in textured bronze or aluminum.

Pieces like the Tamara or Shrut side tables highlight metal’s ability to be both refined and raw. Cast into geometric forms, with surface treatments that mimic stone or lava, they bring an industrial sensibility with a warm oriental soul. Metal also appears in hairpin legs, thin-line frames, and handles, adding strength, contrast, and often, a touch of urban cool. In many of our designs, metal partners with other materials like rope and wood to create a hybrid aesthetic. This is where industrial style meets boho, where minimalist frames meet tropical flair. Metal’s adaptability makes it perfect for transitional homes that balance old and new.

Teak Wood Furniture Design

WTeak is a material we return to again and again—not just for its unmatched durability, but for its deep, golden patina and the stories it carries. Most of our teak pieces are crafted from reclaimed wood, salvaged from old homes, workshops, and furniture, and given new life through careful carpentry.

From beds to dining tables, armchairs to benches, our teak wood furniture spans a wide stylistic spectrum. The Andaman series captures the breezy elegance of island living with its slatted backs and easy grace. The Senhur and Sinni collections, rooted in mid-century modern sensibilities, reimagine teak in retro silhouettes—rounded edges, tapered legs, and playful curves.

The Roz and Spindle collections show another side of teak—more structured and detailed, with joinery techniques that nod to heritage craftsmanship. Tables and beds in these these series become anchoring statements, built to last and designed to grow more beautiful with age.

Whether it’s a solid wood bench or a dining table that hosts a lifetime of meals, teak becomes a warm and reliable companion.

Rope Furniture Design

WThere’s something innately comforting about the tactile detail of rope in furniture. At once soft and structural, it adds visual rhythm and texture. We use colored rope generously, especially in our Tropica armchair —woven across metal frames to the ultimate veranda accent.

It’s a style that feels beachy and relaxed, but it’s also highly functional. The weave allows for breathability, flexibility, and comfort. And the patterns created—linear, lattice, or looped—bring a crafted dimension to otherwise minimalist forms.

Rope furniture is also lightweight and easy to move, making it a favorite for indoor-outdoor transition spaces like balconies, patios, and sunrooms. Its informality pairs beautifully with both bohemian and modern interiors, adding a handmade spirit to clean-lined spaces.
